Skulls in the Stars

There are two roads to Torkertown, and the villagers beg Solomon Kane to take the long one through the swamps.

The short road crosses a bare upland moor, and for a year no one who walked it by night has come back alive. Late travelers hear terrible laughter out on the fen, and the bodies they find are bruised and torn. Kane, a grim Puritan who has defied the powers of darkness before, takes the moor road as the moon rises. What he meets there will send him back down the swamp road, to the rotting hut of Ezra the miser, who has lived alone since his mad cousin Gideon wandered into the bog and was never found.
