The Hills of the Dead

Solomon Kane is sick of the jungle, but before he leaves, his blood-brother N'Longa, voodoo man of the Slave Coast, presses a carved staff of black wood into his hands.

Kane carries it toward a chain of bare, silent hills where vultures gather and something kills men without tearing their flesh. On the grasslands he saves a runaway girl named Zunna from a lion and tries to take her home, but night falls before they reach her village, and the only shelter is a cave in the hills she fears more than lions. Among the boulders wait the walking dead, and beyond them a silent city of stone.
