The Lost Race

Cororuc, a young Briton making his way home alone from a secret mission to the wild Cornish tribes, cuts through a silent forest where no birds sing. There he saves a strange wolf from a panther, takes the head of the bandit chief Buruc the Cruel, and flees a whole band of outlaws, only to be knocked senseless and carried underground by small, dark, silent men.

In a vast cavern lit by fires, beside a river that runs beneath the earth, an ancient chieftain on a stone throne tells him who they are: Picts, the last of a people who once ruled Britain from sea to sea. Every Celt who falls into their hands pays for what the Celts did to them, and the stake is already waiting.
