Kings of the Night

Tomorrow the legions of Rome march into the heather, and Bran Mak Morn, king of the Picts, may lose his kingdom before it is born. His alliance of Pictish clans, British chariot-fighters and the Gaelic horsemen of Cormac of Connacht depends on three hundred Northmen who will not fight under any king but one of their own race.

Old Gonar, high priest of the Shadows, has an answer. He promises the Northmen a king such as no man has followed in a hundred thousand years. Out of the sunrise comes Kull of Valusia, a ruler from an age the sea swallowed long ago, to lead strangers into a battle that is not his own, in a valley where the tribes must stand against Rome or die.
