Rattle of Bones

Solomon Kane does not like the look of the Cleft Skull, a lonely tavern deep in the Black Forest with barred windows, no other guests and a host with small red eyes.

He shares the night's lodging with Gaston l'Armon, a dandified Frenchman who overtook him on the forest road, and whose face Kane is sure he has seen somewhere before. When the two go looking for a bar to secure their door, they find a bolted room with a stained floor, a hidden chamber behind the wall, and a skeleton in chains that has waited a long time for someone to set it free. Before dawn, more than one old vow will be kept.
