Storm Over Warlock

Shann Lantee, the lowest hand on a Terran Survey team, survives the Throg raid that wipes out his camp only because he was up in the hills chasing two escaped wolverines. Now the beetle-like raiders hold Warlock, and Shann, Taggi and Togi are alone on a world of amber skies and purple forest.

Then he finds another survivor: Ragnar Thorvald, a Survey officer who never believed the report that Warlock has no native intelligence. Thorvald carries a carved disk, found on the beach of a sea island, that seems to pull at the mind. As the two flee Throg hunters and their hounds toward the coast, Shann starts having dreams that are not quite his own, and something on Warlock takes a close interest in the dreamer.
