The Gifts of Asti

Memphir, empire of empires, burns below the mountain, and Varta, last Maiden of Asti, is the only one left to obey her god's final command. She lifts the tiny sun and its four worlds from the stone hand of Asti, puts on an ancient suit of lizard skin, and goes down into the roots of the world with Lur, her mute scaled companion who speaks into her mind.

Beyond the Guardian of the Chasms and the poison vapors lies a land no one in Memphir ever knew: ruined roads, a desert of glass, and a lake that keeps whatever it holds exactly as it was. In its depths rests a ship from a war nobody remembers, and inside it, something that may tell Varta where her people came from.
