Space Viking

On the day Lucas Trask marries Elaine Karvall, a jealous rival with a submachine gun turns the wedding into a funeral.

The killer, Andray Dunnan, steals the new warship Enterprise and flees Gram for the half-ruined worlds of the Old Federation. Trask has always despised the Space Vikings who loot those worlds. Now he trades his barony for an unfinished ship, the Nemesis, and goes after Dunnan with the veteran captain Otto Harkaman. Hunting one man across hundreds of light-years takes money, a base and allies, so Trask becomes a raider himself. But once he claims the battered planet Tanith and starts trading as well as plundering, he finds that rebuilding a civilization may be the only way to corner his enemy.
