The Skull

Conger's new job is to kill a man who has been dead for two hundred years. A hunter and smuggler with six years left in prison, he is offered his freedom by the Speaker of the Council if he will ride a time cage back to 1960 and shoot the obscure Founder of the First Church before he can preach the single sermon that ended war.

All Conger has to identify his target is the skull the Church has hidden for centuries. In the small Colorado town of Cooper Creek he rents a room, waits for a stranger to appear and tries not to stand out. But the townspeople are on the lookout for Reds, and to them the bearded newcomer with the odd way of talking is the strangest stranger of all.
